Virtueel Platform (VP) is an internationally oriented, independent expertise centre. VP stimulates innovation and supports knowledge exchange in the field of e-culture in the Netherlands. Knowledge exchange between people and organisations across the whole spectre of culture that are involved in bringing the innovative qualities of e-culture to the arts and media sectors. VP is a matchmaker for anyone in search of partners for e-culture projects.
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science has given Virtueel Platform the task of supporting interdisciplinary e-culture. VP's aim is to encourage more cross-overs and new kinds of partnerships, particularly between parties who would not normally work together. The resulting projects then go on to serve as examples of good practice.
Since it was founded in 1998 the development of VP has run parallel with the development of e-culture. VP goes in search of successful projects to evaluate and publish to a wider audience, organising events for its various communities. These events include conferences, workshops, lectures and meetings. VP also builds and maintains a database of good practice projects, and writes and publishes literature on e-culture.
The people working at VP operate close to the source, and have a background in the theory and practice of e-culture. They map out current activities and needs in the sector and follow wider social trends, and link these up with developments in the fields of science and business.
Virtueel Platform is an independent foundation, funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
