Tamara De Prest is a contemporary visual artist and storyteller based in Zottegem, Belgium. She paints, draws, experiments with analog and digital collages, takes photographs and occasionally creates spatial and videographic work.
Her work focuses on the complexity of the human experience, where vulnerability, self-examination and existential questions are central. From a pervasive confrontation with herself, she uses visual storytelling to create images that honestly acknowledge that behind the facades of everyday life lie many shaky feet. Uncertainty, fear and doubt have a place - a place that our society is all too happy to ignore.
By using fragmentary elements and layering, she gives fragility a voice and leaves room for interpretation and dialogue. The natural world, simple objects and sometimes playful elements provide a subtle counterpart to the introspective themes she explores. These provide balance and conceptual richness, inviting the viewer to pause and reflect: can we ever truly let go of what is behind us, and what will be left when everything is swept away?
Her work seeks visual simplicity in complex ideas, where vulnerability and strength coexist and a healthy relationship with the inner world is possible. This tension creates openness and invites the viewer to form their own interpretation and personal connection. She displays her feelings, but at the same time hidden beneath the subject matter, encouraging visitors to reflect on their own emotional landscapes.
