English:Osamu Shikichi Q1592178
Osamu Shikichi makes performances and installations that explore physical identity and notions of self-possession. Often referencing WET (Weird Erotic Tensions) movements, such as ASMR visualisations, their work examines how the assumptions we hold about our bodies are coded by spectatorship, and the politics and violence of the gaze.
During their residency, Osamu will develop a new performance inspired by the classical Noh theatre play Izutsu (The Well Cradle), in which a phantom distorts history and gender. Blending elements of nihon-buyō (a form of classical Japanese dance) and lap dancing, they will explore the dynamics between different bodies, creating a performative installation that responds to the physical presence of the audience.
