Monique Donckers started as a visual artist at the age 37, with figurative narrative sculpture about the interrelationships between people and herself in existential solitude.
In 2015, after 20 years of sculpting, a serious illness leads to a switch to painting. Her imagery starts from her own existential loneliness, sharpened with reflections on her childhood and surroundings, and culminates in portraits of her own person and body as well as close relationships.
