Karl Philips (°1984, BE) explores the boundary between the private and public space, and the influence of economic and commercial forces on our privacy in everyday life. His artistic practice takes various forms, ranging from monumental installations in both public and private spaces, detailed studies such as maquettes and drawings, to performances and scenographies for theatre.

With his mobile studio, Philips embraces an unconventional lifestyle that nurtures his artistic practice. He subtly investigates and manipulates the foregrounds and backgrounds, of our economic architecture. Central to this exploration is the concept of 'value', both in relation to people, services, and goods, as well as in broader social contexts. His approach, infused with humour and irony, renders his message both accessible and challenging. Karl Philips' work is included in the permanent collections of Mu.ZEE (Ostend), the Flemish Community Collection, NAK (Aachen), and the Vanhaerents Art Collection (Brussels).
