The Emile Van Dorenmuseum is a living museum that not only looks back on the past and the landscape painting tradition of the station d'artistes in Genk, but also develops a current and contemporary operation. The landscape always plays a central role.
The museum tells the story of the landscape painting tradition that Genk knew in the period 1840-1940, where more than four hundred artists were active. All this takes place amidst the original interior of villa Le Coin Perdu, the former artist's home of one of these artists, Emile Van Doren. With changing exhibitions of historical and contemporary art, the museum immerses itself in this often still unknown, but incredibly fascinating and surprising history.
As a house of landscape and art, Le coin perdu is also a place of residence for contemporary artists. Artists are invited to enter into dialogue with the museum, the tradition of landscape painters and the natural and urban landscape of Genk today.
