Deveny Faruque pri­mar­i­ly works with video and instal­la­tion, along­side web design, cod­ing, sound, scenog­ra­phy and per­for­mance. Her video work draws from the cin­e­mato­graph­ic lan­guage of the enter­tain­ment indus­try, with a dis­rup­tive dig­i­tal edge that echoes pop­u­lar media. Fiction is the con­nect­ing thread in her frag­ment­ed, essay­is­tic approach, with her instal­la­tions embody­ing these fic­tive realms. By per­son­i­fy­ing objects, intro­duc­ing fic­tion­al char­ac­ters, and play­ing with abstract enti­ties, she exam­ines themes of mem­o­ry, belong­ing, glo­cal­i­ty, mod­­ern-day flex­i­bil­i­ty, and place­less­ness. Through slow, immer­sive audio­vi­su­al expe­ri­ences, she cre­ates a space where light-heart­ed­­ness rules and rules are rewritten.
