Classical modern and contemporary art. 3D works, objects and installations, from Rodin to young contemporary artists.

Locality:

Conference hall in glass, openness and transparency to everyone. Sculptures in open air, and in the interior. A young museum. Town attracted architects etcetera after Second World War. Little by little the city collected sculptures. Now they have a quality collection. Other emphasis is media art.

Every year there is a competition, and there is also a permanent collection. They have changing video programmes. In 1981 exhibition on video and new media and the aim is to demonstrate universal applicable criteria for young medium.

They organize the competition because they want to look at the evolution of the last two years and the competition is organised every two years. There is no prize money but the winner gets an exhibition and a video catalogue. They had 250 applications this year. All entries remain on DVD in the museum for the collection.

They have two awards: the video art award and video installation award; both are presented together in one exhibition. Money comes from one sponsor. This year money failed to appear and the video installation award had to be cancelled.

In 2002, they had for the first time in Germany the sound art award. Out of samples the jury chooses a group who gets processing time and after two months the winner is chosen. Then the winning sound is made accessible to broader public. In Duisburg there is also Genre crossing music festival.

Great number of cooperation partners and sponsors needed to organize all these competitions, every competition has different partners and sponsors. Besides the leader of the house, another scientific assistant is employed. With some luck they also have some trainees that help out.
