Isjtar Vandebroeck is a transdisciplinary artist working at the crossroads of art and technology. A first-generation native digital artist, he treats the computer as both material and tool —marble, chisel, and lens.

From 2006 to 2011, he was a core member of OKNO, a collective exploring media, interactivity, and ecology. Collaborating with Guy Van Belle, Gert Aertsen, and AnneMarie Maes, he experimented with algorithms and networked artworks. Walking on Mai Mind was an early exploration of artificial intelligence.

In 2011, he founded ATK! with Ofer Smilansky, a reaction against the dehumanized nature of electronic performance, they put themselves in the center of larger than life immersive environments, blending light, sound, and space. Their works transformed architecture into dynamic sensory experiences.

By 2016, he launched Blue Brute, inspired by the Bluebeard tale. It marked a shift from purely digitally inspired work toward reconnecting with art history, using live cinema techniques to suggest narratives with light, camera movement, and atmosphere.

Since 2019, he has been part of CREW, the pioneering VR and performance arts collective founded by Eric Joris, creating acclaimed XR performances like Delirious Departures and Anxious Arrivals.
