Intention - INTERFACE is an academic platform that investigates the interfaces between art and science. It aims to define, confirm and extend the creative undercurrents and critical content involved.
Topics - With art and sciences we are consciously opting for a broad approach that allows us to focus on a wide variety of concrete themes. The planned activities start from a particular topic that involves different art forms and explore it from a transdisciplinary scientific perspective.
Team - INTERFACE presents itself as an interdisciplinary interlocutor for artists, researchers and students having an interest or project that links in with the questions of our research clusters.
Initiative - INTERFACE's board brings together players and institutes that investigate art and science theoretically and in practice. The board consists of Christel Stalpaert (Ghent University), Wim De Temmerman (Faculty of Fine Arts, University College Ghent (KASK), Robrecht Vanderbeeken (KASK/Ghent University), Dirk Aerts (Free University of Brussels (VUB), Clea) and Maaike Bleeker (Utrecht University).
Practice - Reflecting on art calls for research that is in constant close contact with artistic life. To this end INTERFACE invites different artists to develop thought-experiments together. INTERFACE has also explicitly opted to cooperate with various art institutes to intensify the interaction of the academic sector with the field of art. Our cultural partner right from the beginning is Vooruit, Ghent's art centre.
