The concept of ensemble Discord Workshop first arose in 2012 when Takao Hyakutome, Corey Klein and Nico Couck met at the 46. Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt. In 2013 Pieter Lenaerts and Tomoko Honda joined, and the ensemble was formed. It is because of the members’ fierce dedication to present-day composed music, that this quintet aims to extend the boundaries of what chamber music is and used to be.

Discord Workshop tries to move both composers and performers to re-explore the processes of creation and interpretation. The quintet searches to question contemporary performance practice by utilizing the benefits of mutual collaboration. And by engaging the youngest generation of composers, the ensemble aims to present high quality and adventurous concert performances.
