The biennial festival "Belgian Music Days" emerged in 2018 with the idea of bringing together all language groups in Belgium around a shared musical heritage. The chronological framework spans written music from 1830 to the present, with a special focus on the music of living composers, encompassing not only creations but also embracing new genres taught in conservatories such as jazz and electroacoustic music. Presenting their heritage also includes a pedagogical component, actively involving students from music academies, college students, and professional musicians.

They aim to foster broad exchange, not only through the dissemination and performance of compositions, but also by stimulating encounters and bringing together all actors in Belgian music life, including programmers, musicologists, specialized labels, media, directors of academies, and conservatories. This is facilitated through conferences, premieres, exhibitions, showcases, and debates.

The intention is to host the "Belgian Music Days" in a different city each time in consultation with music education institutions across the country, organizing concerts and performances in diverse settings ranging from symphony orchestras to chamber music ensembles, encompassing various genres including electroacoustic music. BMD-2018 was held in Leuven (Flemish Brabant) at Luca School of Arts, and BLD-2020 took place in Mons (Hainaut) in collaboration with Arts2, Musiques Nouvelles, the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, and Arsonic. The 2022 edition was hosted in Eupen. The artistic committee of the Belgian Music Days includes representatives from Componisten Archipel Vlaanderen (ComAV), Composers Forum, Kunstenpunt, Point Culture, FeBemE-BeFEM, Matrix, ISCM Flanders, and the Union of Belgian Composers.

The Belgian Music Days are supported by the Walloon Federation of Brussels, the Flemish Community, the German-speaking Community of Belgium, and Sabam For Culture.
