Rudi J.L. Bogaerts is a versatile and exploratory visual artist based in Ghent, where he also lives and works. Born in Sint-Truiden in 1964, he studied Painting and Photography & Film at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Ghent (KASK). Bogaerts embraces various media in his artistic practice, including painting, drawing, assemblages, photography, and film. He distinguishes himself through his ability to transform everyday observations and found objects into playful, subtle compositions that open a dialogue on broader social and philosophical themes.

With a combination of playful lightness and insight, Bogaerts invites viewers to look beyond the obvious. By combining found objects and visual elements in unexpected ways, he explores the tension between the banal and the abstract, between what is visible and what remains hidden. His oeuvre is layered, offering not only aesthetic pleasure but also intellectual stimulation, often with societal themes as a starting point.

Bogaerts addresses concrete situations that shape our existence and raises questions about current political, social, and ecological issues. He uses humour and suggestive imagery to challenge the everyday without fully unravelling it, allowing objects and images to function as catalysts that provoke thought. This adds an extra layer of depth and complexity, enabling viewers to discover new layers of meaning with each interaction. His work moves effortlessly between irony, humour, and tragedy, calling for a reinterpretation of the everyday with a keen eye for both the unexpected and the invisible.
