Spain has a long and rich tradition in video and electronic arts but until now it never had a basic structure that was able to mediate between institutions, the media and the artists.
This is the reason that has lead to the creation of HAMACA, the first Media & Video Art Distribution platform from Spain. Since March 2007 HAMACA is now actively distributing over 400 works which can ALL be viewed on-line on www.hamacaonline.net.
The works included in the catalogue have been previously selected by a selection committee composed by a group of specialists in the field; the catalogue will be regularly updated and revised by new committees.
In order to make the on-line catalogue more accessible to an international audience, the web-site has been completely translated into English. HAMACA's online-platform offers furthermore a number of services free of charge that allow you to browse the catalogue very efficiently (previews of all the videos, search engines by author, keyword, etc., help tools such as 'the catalogue viewed by').
Hamaca, however, is not only about distribution and conservation of important Spanish video productions, but also tries to stimulate the circulation of its works through the elaboration of thematic cycles or "packs" which are conceived in collaboration with expert-curators and which will then be offered to cultural institutions for further diffusion.
