VIERNULVIER is an internationally renowned arts center with a long-standing tradition as a home for performing arts and live music. VIERNULVIER - since January 1, 2017 also an Arts Institution - is the beating heart of the arts quarter in Ghent, with the Minard Schouwburg, the city library De Krook and Capitole just a stone's throw away. Every year 350,000 visitors come to see theater, debate, concert, talks, performance, party, dance, literature and much more. The VIERNULVIER Café, housed in De Vooruit, an impressive 100-year-old monument, functions as the meeting place.

As an art institution, VIERNULVIER separates its operation from its location and welcomes visitors to De Vooruit. The monument in Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat is and remains De Vooruit, but art center VIERNULVIER is more than just De Vooruit. In addition to extensive programming in De Vooruit, VIERNULVIER's program also offers a diverse range of events at various locations in Ghent, but also beyond.

VIERNULVIER fulfills the participation function in different ways.  On the one hand by literally bringing participatory art practices in house (Jong Gewei and Platform-K are organizations in residence there) but also by a strongly participatory co-programming in collaboration with specific communities (the crip movement, the queer community) and very diverse guest curators. On the other hand, there is the artistic line around the “City Studio,” in which VIERNULVIER supports a group of artists and organizations (including Manoeuvre) in developing slow, grounded practices in the city.
